Oh I wish I had a camera last night.
Last night I went to my mom's house just to visit and show her my new haircut. That and my cousin was going so I wanted to visit with her and my aunt as well.
My mom is odd. She loves LOVES spiders. Not the spiders that crawl on the wall or surprise us when we walk into a room. But BIG spiders. Spiders that need to be kept in cages, spiders that she has to buy crickets for. My mom loves her spiders. She once has a sign on her spider's cage that said "The more men I meet, the more I like my spider." Growing up my mom always had a spider. I think the first one was a gift for my brother (Cleo), but after that one my mom has been addicted.
-Cleo was a friendly spider one that we would hold, yes I said hold... How crazy was I back then. Now I can barely stand to be in the same room as one in a cage.
-Then there was Houdini- of course he didn't get that name until after he had escaped numerous times. We were not friends with Houdini!
There may have been one or two inbetween those but they are the ones I can remember.
Finally there is Homer. Homer is a very old spider, my mom has had him forever it seem like. We use to miss church when he molted because we wanted to watch. Plus we liked any excuse to miss church. Home is a good spider, he stays in his cage, he keeps to him self and he minds his P's & Q's.
After my mom got married she bought another spider. So that is two hideous creatures she keeps captive in her room. This spider is blue, so she named her Marge. You can't have Homer without a Marge. Marge is a spider that if it ever gets out the place needs to be evacuated, an exterminator called in and the spider must be hunted and killed. Yeah a pet I really hope to have. Marge is extremely aggressive and poisonous.
Yesterday before we left my mother house, my aunt wanted to see if Marge was out. Marge only comes out at night. For a while my mom thought she had died because she had burrowed into the ground for months. But of course she couldn't check because the damn thing is deadly!
Anyways Marge was out of hiding and she was dangling from the top of the wire mesh aquarium top. Yes my friends she had climbed glass and had a leg stuck out of the top of the cage. So my mom very slowly took the rock that was holding the lid in place off. At that time my cousin and I were climbing over each other trying to get as far away from that cage as we possible could. Too bad we were in the room and the only way to get out was through the window. Yeah I thought about it. My mom just laughed at us and told us the top was clasped shut, but that didn't calm our fears one bit. I no longer wanted to see this creature hanging from the top of his cage, I wanted to go to my nice safe house without any spiders. I am glad to see Marge for the first time, my mom has owned her for nearly a year! But maybe next time you buy a deadly spider, don't tell us how deadly and aggressive it really is, then we won't be so jumpy every time the damn thing moves.
Funny thing after it all happened, I told my mom "I am so going to blog about this." She just laughed at me.
