This weekend has been a weekend of opener for a lot of the College Sports teams. Now anyone that knows me knows that I am not that "into" sports. My husband on the other hand is obsessed with sports. He watches ESPN religiously, when we are in his Jeep he listens to Sports Radio religioulsy, it's like he's afraid he will miss something between walking from the house to the cars! Me on the other hand I am a sports fan only when I go to the games. I hate sports on TV! I hate the commentators, the commercials and just can't get into the game without some guy I've never met sitting next to me yelling profanity!
On Friday the University of Utah played their first game of the season. Last year they were undefeated during the the entire season and won the Fiesta Bowl. They lost a few of their players to graduation and also their Star Quarterback to the S.F. 49ers. And their Head Coach Erbin Meyer to the Florida Gators. So it was going to be interesting to see if they could hold on to their undefeated title. They proved to still be a good team winning 27-24.
Next on the list of teams to have their first game is BYU. Now BYU is my husbands favorite school and major rival to the UofU. Last season they sucked! Winning only fives of the 11 games. So finally BYU go rid of their Head Coach and replace him with Bronco Mendenhall (yes that's his real name). My husband was pretty excited for the game hoping Mendenahall would bring this team out of their lossing streak. Well it proved to be quite a depressing game lossing 20-3. They couldn't even score a touchdown! Sadly most of my family are UofU fans so they gave Bob alot of crap, especially since he went to the UofU game wanting them to lose so he could gloat. So as the newspapers put it the Cougars are their own worst enemy!
Now personally I'm not a fan of either team, I've never been one to jump on a bandwagon and I think the rivalry is just funny! So my team is Weber State (plus I went to College there). Last season Weber State only won 1 of their 11 games. Weber is also in a completely diffrence confrence then BYU and UofU. This season Weber State has a new head coach, Ron McBride who use to coach for the UofU some time ago, and as the newspapers reportered McBride is the "Cats" meow. We won 61- 0. From what I understand from reading the papers Weber State scored the 61 points in the first half, replacing the starters with 2nd and 3rd string players after that. The game also ended 7 minutes early due to lightening and the fact that the other team was losing so horribly they would never win.
So that's my sports recap. I'm glad that Weber State won, I hope they continue winning, so I have something to gloat to my husband about. We always are cheering for different teams so it's fun to see a team I like actually win and win so good!

Weber State is actually also Division 1-AA, while Utah and BYU are 1-A. Weber State is in the Big Sky Conference, which is arguably the top 1-AA football conference in the nation. I was at that game and it was awesome. Over 17,000 people there. 17,000!! Can you believe that? When I was in college if there were 2,000 people there, it was big news! And that's when they were ranked 9th in the country! Weber State didn't score all 61 points in the first-half, but keep in mind that Western State is a DII school and Big Sky teams beat teams from the Rocky Mountain Conference (Western State's conference) 168-13. Nice.
I only get excited about live games, I'd rather scratch my eyes out then have to watch games on tv.
tv games are a nice to fall asleep to.
yes that is true, and usually what happens when I watch tv games.
