Random Rants

Yesterday I decided to make homemade carmel... mmmm
Rant #1
I had two different recipes so I made both to see which tastes better. The first called for canned milk the second called for cream. I made the canned milk first. It was okay, but didn't taste like the homemade carmel I wanted. So I made the cream one next. I didn't have time to let it cool before I went to bed so I left it on the counter with tin foil over the top. I woke up this morning to cut the carmel and wrap in wax paper and it was hard as a rock! Lesson learned. Don't leave carmel out too long. Tonight will be test run #2.

Rant #2
Saturday I mailed a Christmas package to my little sister. She lives 250 miles away from me. That's a 3 1/2 hour drive depending on how fast one drives. I've made it in 2 1/2 hours. Anyways. The place I mailed the package (not USPS) told me that the best way to mail it was FedEx Ground 2 day service. That way I have a tracking number and better guarantee that it will get to the destination by Christmas. My brother in law mailed his package the same day with the post office. His package arrived Monday morning at my Sisters house. So here it is 5 days after I mailed it. And the damn thing still isn't there! I tracked the package this morning and here is what it said.

Dec 19, 2005 8:03 PM Arrived at FedEx location NORTH SALT LAKE, UT
7:53 PM Arrived at FedEx location NORTH SALT LAKE, UT
5:43 PM Picked up NORTH SALT LAKE, UT

Dec 20, 2005 9:33 AM Arrived at FedEx location LINDON, UT
9:24 AM In transit LINDON, UT
5:13 AM At local FedEx facility LINDON, UT
2:30 AM Departed FedEx location NORTH SALT LAKE, UT

Dec 21, 2005 10:25 PM Departed FedEx location OREM, UT
6:58 PM Arrived at FedEx location OREM, UT

Dec 22, 2005 2:53 AM Departed FedEx location NORTH SALT LAKE, UT
Arrived at FedEx location NORTH SALT LAKE, UT

And this may not mean much to anyone but it means a lot to me!! It means the damn package came back to the city that I shipped it from! 4 days later and it hasen't gotten past Lindon! Lindon is only 35 miles away from my house! So I call FedEx to find out what is happening with my package and the person that I got ahold of was.so.rude!!! He told me that maybe if I would have paid more then it would have gotten there sooner. I'm sorry I didn't know that is how they worked! And why the hell is it coming back! He told me that it would get to the destination city eventually. EVENTUALLY, THAT'S NOT WHAT I PAID FOR!!! Needless to say I hung up on the dumb ass. I called back and got a much more understanding lady and she assured me that they would get the package to my sister in time for Christmas. I just can't believe that guy would say that too me! Customer Service my ass. I guess you only get customer service if you pay the right amount!

Okay so that's it, Fedex are dumb asses and USPS actually delivers packages on time.

GRRR.. now FedEx is saying they can't locate Recipenent! The city is the size of a freaking dime! How can they not find her! Either FedEx are a bunch of dumb asses or else just too lazy to try!

Customer service is seriously lacking in this country..and to top it off...as if WE weren't bad enough...companies go to outsource thier "service" to other countries....if WE can't be nice or understand each other, what makes them think that a person from another country is going to help? End of my rant in your comments!

How did the last batch of caramels turn out? I'm curious because I've been wanting to make them since I saw a recipe in Fine Cooking mag a month or so ago.

I discovered FedEx is not a reputible company when I had shipped a package and paid for delivery confirmation, insurance and everything...the whole deal. When my package did not arrive the time it should, I called to inquire and was told that there was no GUARANTEE it would get there at that time. Then what the hell did I pay for? Two weeks after it was supposed to arrive it got there, too late for its intended purpose. I called and complained for three months before I got compensated for my trouble. I have never used them again. The Post Office is the way to go!
