Friday the 13th

OOOOOOOOoooooooooooo

Friday the 13th has always held a special place in my heart. Growing up; on Friday the 13th my mom would do funny things. When she would serve dinner she would block off the kitchen while she prepared dinner and cover the table with a sheet so we couldn't see what was beneath it. When we came to sit down she would unveil our dinner. Our plates would consist of pot and pans or casserole dishes, our silverware was tongs, spatulas or anything else that was silly. We would drink from vases (washed of course) or measuring cups. We always had a fun dinner on Friday the 13th.

My greatest memory of Friday the 13th was also when I was a child, maybe Junior High age. Sometime in the middle of the night I woke up to the sound of what sounded like firecrackers. I didn't really think anything of it until the next morning. When we went out to get our mail the mailbox was SMASHED. Inside at the back of the mailbox was a small package wrapped in tape with wires sticking out. And the inside of the mailbox was charcole. Someone had put a bomb in our mailbox and blew it up! The force of the bomb had flattened our mailbox. Forgetting the mail (yes the mailman had put mail in our mailbox WITH THE BOMB; come rain, hail, sleet or bomb we will get our mail!!) we ran back inside the house to tell our mom what was in the mailbox. She called the police and a bombsquad came to our house. It was the coolest thing. We all stayed inside watching from the window while the bomb squad combed the street, they found 7 bombs on our street, most were in peoples driveways (ours was the only one they had used on a mailbox). It was definilty a Friday the 13th to remember. Every year we hoped to have our mailbox blown up again (no luck).

It's funny how one day sticks out in someones mind.

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH TO ALL

I now too have a reason to love Friday the 13th!! Although I hope it will come and go without any bombs being involved!!

That was a great story. I once put a stamp on a dead opposum and stuck it in a neighbor's mailbox (when I was in 4th grade) - I guess that is my fun mailbox story. It was the house of the kid that picked on everyone else. If the postal service is reading this - that story is made up.

We watched the person (this isn't true of course, US postal service) take the opposum out of the mailbox too.. They just looked at it. It was stiff as a board - with a stamp on the top part of it's butt!
